This Website Page includes a directory of community agencies, businesses, facilities in the Whalley Range, Moss Side and Hulme area.

We do not necessarily endorse the activities of these groups but wish to offer a central listing of community activities in our area.

Our local community

Moss Side and Whalley Range are two vibrant multi racial communities 1.5 miles south of Manchester city centre. Moss Side is an area of mainly terraced housing built in the late Victorian and Edwardian period to house managers and middle class families. Whalley Range was an even more affluent leafy suburb but since the war many of the large houses have been subdivided into flats or redeveloped. Despite this many attractive buildings remain and much of Whalley Range is designated as a Conservation Area.

The boundary between the two parishes runs through the Alexandra Park low rise estate built on a major slum clearance site in the 1970s. The social housing estate is named after the nearby park that is home to the city’s annual Caribbean Carnival and many other events.

Moss Side and Whalley Range are great places to live and the area is rapidly shedding its undeserved reputation. There has been significant investment and regeneration and the quality of life is improving more than most inner city areas in Manchester. The two churches are at the centre of much of this positive change and we want to continue serving the community.
